Update Makes Locomalito’s Gaurodan Harder & Faster

If you have ever played any of Locomalito’s games, I find it hard to believe that you would think they need to get harder. His kindness is hard to question, given his philosophy of always making high-quality games and then releasing them for free, but there’s also a closet cruelty at work. Each of them possesses an NES/Arcade level of difficulty, one where victory has to be earned with practice and skill. So, when he announced the release of an update to Gaurodan to make it harder, my hands shook out of both anticipation and fear. But mostly fear.

Gaurodan is a game about a flying lizard that breathes lightning, the sort of thing the military doesn’t appreciate flying around no matter how adorable it looks. Inspired by games like Choplifter and Sky Kid, players will have to blast as many things as they can before they run out of energy on the single life they have to finish the game. Fast-paced and simple, the game already required very specific timing to see it all the way through. The new update speeds up gameplay and adds even more bullets, although Locomalito swears he’s balanced some other things in the game to make it more fair. It also adds an old television effect to give players the complete retro experience.

As usual, the game is free, so if you haven’t experienced the highs and lows of life as a lightning-spitting pterodactyl, head to his site and give it (or any of his other fine games) a shot. If you’ve already (somehow) beaten the previous version, the update should give you more than enough of a reason to come back and do it again.
