Starfall Tactics Aims to Present New Take on Space RTS

Science fiction is a fascination for many people, and fortunately we have been able to experience some of it through games. Snowforged Entertainment wants to offer a sci-fi experience blended with MMO RTS sensibilities, huge customizable ships, and galaxy exploration, all packaged as their new game Starfall Tactics.

The developers claim that Starfall Tactics is going to solve a common problem for modern 4X space wargames, which typically focus too much on just one aspect of gameplay. Instead, Snowforged intends to create a game that balances an expansive universe with intense combat and detailed visuals. Besides this, the game also has a high level of customization, allowing players to change weapons, engines, armors, shields, hulls, and even replace their old frigates for heavy, dangerous dreadnoughts.

As in most MMOs, Starfall Tactics will feature clan systems. In-game, these groups will be able to set outposts on different planets, take control of several sectors, mine the most valuable asteroids and, of course, get into trouble with enemy factions. Trading items is also key to the game, as players can get their most-needed ship parts through negotiation with each other. A blueprint system will also be available as another source of obtaining ship components.

Starfall Tactics will be free to play, but players can choose to buy boosters with real money, which contain blueprints that will allow them to craft better components faster, skipping some stages of the game. Still, the developers assure that there will be no “pay-to-win,” citing that all the blueprints bought with real money will also be obtainable in-game.

The Kickstarter campaign for Starfall Tactics is set at a goal of $45k. Those who donate $20 or more will get access to the game’s beta for PC by early 2016, if the campaign is successful. Those interested in supporting the game have just under a month to pledge, as the campaign is set to end on June 11. For more information, visit the Kickstarter page or the game’s official website.
