Screenshot Weekly – Justice Parallels Revenge on the Outskirts of Society

Welcome back to Screenshot Weekly! Every Saturday, IGM brings you exclusive looks at upcoming games in various stages of development. The featured image introducing each game will always be original, and made especially for IGM, so you’ll see them for the first time right here! Now without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s screenshots:

Outskirts

You might think an indie game titled Outskirts would carry some deep narrative resonance. Perhaps create a commentary on social classes, or tell the story of a young person living on the ‘wrong side of the tracks.’ But you, much like me, would be way overthinking this one. Outskirts is a shoot ’em up in development at Rezo Zero, and what it lacks in storytelling it aims to make up for in gameplay. “Outskirts throws you in a circular and enemy-flooded board. Unlike other well-known shoot ‘em ups, there’s no scrolling in the game, everything evolves around the center of the screen,” said developer Maxime Constantinian. Three colors dominate the battlefield, and players switch between them to fend off attacks. Players are immune to bullets of the same element, adding a layer of fast-paced strategy to the frantic chaos. “Killing enemies in the proper order will make you achieve a combo and gain bonus points or bonus score multiplier.”

Parallels

On the less-violent side of the tracks, the next game in today’s segment is called Parallels. Designed as a puzzle escape game with charming visuals and deceptively difficult gameplay, players must make their way through a colorful, surreal landscape. However, the developers at Rising High caution that “What seems like an easy journey, will soon become fraught with danger as you progress through the shadows of ever changing light.” The game uses a single button approach, with only a jump function and fast reflexes standing between players and utter failure. In particular, Rising High notes the need for “cunning timing and nerves of steel to reach the safety of the Parallel checkpoints.” Current features include new levels being added daily, an ambient soundtrack, and support for both Mac and PC. Parallels is currently looking for support on Steam Greenlight, with no firm release date in mind, but a tentative price set at $5. More info can be found on Twitter.

Rayna’s Revenge

“I am Rayna, a daughter of death and shadows… a vampire! I have been captured, my followers has been defeated and my castle has been stolen by the Knight and his Order… but I’m not giving up, I feel the power of the red moon and I know that my time is coming… it’s time for Revenge!” This story synopsis sets up Rayna’s Revenge, a platform-adventure game in development for PC. As you can see from the images, the game mixes hand-drawn, animated 2D characters with 3D backgrounds. Developed by Mizu Games, the game is built using Unreal Engine 4 and features platforming, combat, and the ability to attract new followers, including bats and werewolves. “Inspired by the spirit of classic Metroidvania-style games and other platform-adventure games, Rayna’s Revenge will take you through multiple dangerous zones filled with secrets and monsters to recover your magic power and achieve your goal, revenge!” The game does not yet have a set release date.
