Screenshot Weekly – Battle-Ready Golden Seals

Welcome back to Screenshot Weekly! Every Tuesday, IGM brings you exclusive looks at upcoming games in various stages of development. The featured image introducing each game will always be original, and made especially for IGM, so you’ll see them for the first time right here (make sure to click the pics to see them in their full screen glory)! Without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s screenshots:

Battle Buggy Grounds

Battle Buggy Grounds is a Top-Down Tank Shooter inspired by the NES classic Battle City. The objective of the game is to progress through each level as you face-off against waves of increasingly challenging enemy vehicles (including tanks, ‘buggies’, choppers, and hybrids of them all). The levels themselves offer a challenge, as you will also have to navigate through swamps, ice, and avoid lava. To make it even more challenging, after completing a set of levels, you will have to face an unforgiving enemy boss type.” In case that description sounds like the odds are against the player, fear not: Solo developer Leon Kidando tells me that “the player buggy will be equipped with weapons to help accomplish each level’s goal. From the standard ‘tank-shot’ to a flame thrower, laser gun and even sledge hammer shots.” Battle Buggy Grounds is being developed in GameMaker: Studio, and set to be released on PC. It is currently in Beta testing.

Goldwingu

In case you didn’t get enough action with that last one, Goldwingu dials the destruction up another notch. Developer Kimmo Savolainen explained that, “Goldwingu is an old-school, vertically scrolling shoot’em up with light tactical seasoning, where upgrades are earned through performance (e.g. accuracy will be rewarded with more shots to be accurate with), and above all, it explores the beauty in pixel explosions. Goldwingu is developed for Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris. I (Kimmo Savolainen) am the lone developer, with a little bit of help from Tomi Puhakka for the sounds.” Additionally, I learned that the game will feature both solo and co-op modes, but that there’s virtually no story to speak of. Gameplay-wise though, “players can divert energy from the ships reactor to either shields or weapons and thrusters, allowing them to charge shields at the cost of speed and vice versa.” Additional info can be found via Twitter, the game’s website, or on IndieDB.

Silly Seal

After all that death and destruction, I think it’s time for a palette cleanser. Silly Seal is an upcoming project by the folks at Silly Enterprises.  Not looking to over complicate things, it is basically a tapping game with simple instructions: Players tap the screen to make the seal go up, and release to make the seal go down. According to the team, “the goal of the game is to collect as many fish and gems as possible, while avoiding all the bombs that will cost the player their virtual life. Along the way, as an added feature to the game, players can use their points to buy helpful hints from the shop section of the game.” Additional in-app purchases can be made to change the background, and for each background the fish are different. The backgrounds available include the default beach, a jungle, a mountain, and space (because… reasons). Silly Seals is scheduled to launch on iOS and Android in late December. More details can be found on the developer’s website.
