Randal’s Monday – A Love Letter to Geekdom

Nexus Game Studios presents it’s debut title, Randal’s Monday – a traditional point-and-click adventure game, that is the biggest love letter to not only the point-and-click genre, but to pop culture. Period.

You play as Randal – a wise crackin’, geek-culture obsessed slacker, who awakes to find that he’s stuck in a time-loop, where his Monday perpetually repeats until he atones for a huge mistake. Wait, isn’t that the premise to Groundhogs Day? Randal’s Monday, in it’s pop cultured filled fashion, immediately acknowledges this connection in good fun, essentially setting the tone as to what to expect for the rest of the game.

Nexus Game Studios has created a fully hand drawn world, with characters animated in the spirit of modern cartoons, complimented with full voice acting for the what seems like the dozens of characters you’ll interact with.

Randal’s Monday was made for pop culture geeks, and specifically, old-school point-and-click adventure game fanatics. Nearly every environment shown from Randal’s Monday had more than one nuance, homage, or reference tucked away for the player to find. From Manny Calavera’s skull from Grim Fandango sitting on a bookcase in the background, to a guy cosplaying as Gordon Freeman at a convention, there is an immense appreciation and awareness of the pop culture medium behind Randal’s Monday.

Randal’s Monday stars none other than Jeff Anderson, the man responsible for the iconic role of Randal Graves from Kevin Smith’s classic, Clerks. Though Randals’ Monday has no direct correlation to the Randal from Clerks, it’s obviously intentional, given the game’s massive emphasis on pop culture references. You’ll find that Jeff Anderson is doing what he does best here – delivering the sarcastic, widely opinionated, quirky, and downright hilarious dialogue he does best.

Randal’s Monday is set to be released in the Fall of 2014. You can follow the game on Twitter and like it on Facebook for the latest updates.
