MineThon For AbleGamers – The 72-Hour Minecraft Marathon Starts Tomorrow
Lead by Ethan Smith, a hardworking group of volunteer streamers will be streaming their last 72-hour Minecraft marathon beginning tomorrow. The entire event will be streamed on Twitch, with the express purpose of raising money for AbleGamers, a nonprofit public charity foundation that works to improve the overall quality of life for those with disabilities through the power of video games and the video game community.
Minethon will start tomorrow, July 25th, at 6am EDT on a new 1,000 person Minecraft server that was donated by CreeperHost. Over the course of the 72 hours, Minethon will feature several events on top of the general stream, including “raffles, special [Minecraft celebrity] guests, mini-games, and auctions.” Viewers will also be allowed access to the server to play alongside the Minethon streamers after a minimum donation of $2.99. Donators are encouraged to donate more in order to support the event and the charity.
The streamers at Minethon have been hard at work to prepare for this event, just as they had previously. “The outpouring of support from the MineThon stream and community over the years has been overwhelming,” said Steven Spohn, Chief Operations Officer for AbleGamers.
AbleGamers works to support their community of disabled gamers in many different ways, including offering consultation services to AAA and indie game developers in order to assist in making each game as accessible as possible. AbleGamers also has the largest community portal for gamers with disabilities from around the world, and regularly reviews video games specifically for their accessibility. The charity also provides grants to the gaming community in need of assistive technology, often multiple times over the course of the year depending on funding.
Viewers can watch the stream directly on twitch.tv, and can send their PayPal donations through MineThon’s website. There will also be regular updates on Twitter and Facebook.
