Indie Intermission – ‘An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge’ Not Your Typical Game

After playing Don’t Kill The Cow (DKTC) last week by Seemingly Pointless I felt compelled to play their other title An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge (Owl Creek). Although rather different to DKTC Owl Creek is also a rather unique and thought provoking game.

Set in post-colonial America the story begins in Alabama with you playing as a captured solider ready to be hanged by the federal army. There is only one way to go and you must take the leap of faith off the railway bridge and prey that the rope breaks. The following game that comes as a result of this action is rather interesting and although will only take your around five minutes to complete has a very interesting ending that does create a very interesting game.

Seemingly Pointless seem to create some unique interactive experiences and I for one love them. They are thought provoking and short enough to embody a very strong and compelling message and are a testament to how video games can be used to tell a story. Often unconventional and usually self aware Seemingly Pointless give you an experience like no other.

Owl Creek has been based on a short story by the same name and is well worth a read if you would like to find out a little more about what happens in the game after completing it yourself.

Average play time – 5 minutes

It’s rare to find a developer that continues to produce unconventional and highly contemplative titles like Seemingly Pointless but I am glad I’ve stumbled across them. Their games are less about being fun distractions from the real world and more reflective pieces on gaming and humans in general. If you are after a completely different experience An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge will no disappoint.

Be sure to play An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge on the official site now.
