By The Order Of The Queen, Take To The Stars In Her Majesty’s SPIFFING

UK developers, BillyGoat Entertainment, have launched a Kickstarter for their intergalactic comedy adventure game Her Majesty’s SPIFFING. You take the role of Captain Frank Lee English, on a mission to the stars to discover new planets and life, under the order of The Queen. Split into three acts, you’ll travel aboard of the HMSS Imperialise to other planets, crossing paths with other characters, some hostile, some friendly.

Following familiar adventure game mechanics, you’ll have an inventory to collect items to solve puzzles, and engage in dialogue to progress the games story. The animations in Her Majesty’s SPIFFING are extremely impressive, and hilariously expressionate. The game also capitalizes on being used with a controller, which is commonly ignored or not as often seen in adventure games (with the exception of some titles like The Walking Dead). BillyGoat seems to be taking a more classic point-and-click adventure approach with their humor, but is making an effort to modernize the mechanics and functionality.

BillyGoat Entertainment are focused on delivering a comedic experience focused on British culture, but all in good, brilliant fun. Clearly the studio has a strong grasp on self-awareness in their humor, poking fun at adventure game cliches in the pre-alpha demo footage – upon interacting with the cockpit door and activating the classic “verb actions,” Captain Frank Lee English responds “I appear to have activated sort of context sensitive menu.”

A Kickstarter was launched on October 16th, aiming to raise £30,000. A pre-alpha demo is currently available (here) for the same platforms it’s set to be released on: PC, Mac, Linux. You can find more information on the game’s Facebook page.
