Some World of Warcraft Classic Players May Receive Battle for Azeroth for Free
The highly-anticipated World of Warcraft Classic finally launched late last month and brought hundreds of thousands of players back to Azeroth. Although the original version of the popular MMORPG is considered a lot more difficult than later iterations, there are quite a few diehard players who already managed to reach the level cap. In case you’re not familiar with the original, the level cap in WoW Classic sits at just 60.
Reaching level 60 in just a few days is quite a noteworthy achievement. So much so, in fact, that Blizzard is reportedly considering rewarding these hardcore players. According to the Brazilian WoW Facebook page, players who manage to get to level 60 in World of Warcraft Classic will receive the Battle for Azeroth expansion for free. Max level players can apparently also expect a free level 110 boost. The boost comes standard with every purchase of Battle for Azeroth.
This is definitely great news but it’s probably a good idea not to get too excited just yet. The message was actually deleted not long after it was posted on the Facebook page. This may suggest that the decision to give Battle for Azeroth away for free is not final just yet. Either that or Blizzard was waiting for a better time to make the announcement. If that's the case, this could have been just a premature leak. Either way, take this with a grain of salt for the time being.
15 Years of World of Warcraft
The fact that Blizzard decided to launch World of Warcraft Classic in 2019 is definitely not a coincidence. 2019 marks the 15th anniversary of the game, which initially came out back on November 23, 2004. It would have been more fitting to launch the classic version later this year in November but I suppose the developers had their reasons for releasing it a bit early. Either way, it’s good to be able to play the old WoW once again.
Blizzard has big plans for the 15th anniversary of the game. The company announced that anybody who logs into the game during November will receive a special celebration package. The package will contain a Lil’ Nefarian pet along with some other in-game goodies. In addition, Blizzard is also opening three unique raids and a reworked version of the iconic Alterac Valley battleground. Players who earn enough currency in Alterac Valley can then exchange it for one of two new mounts. One for the Horde and for the Alliance.
Coincidentally, November is also when Blizzcon 2019 is scheduled to take place. This year the event runs between November 1 and November 3 and promises to be a big one thanks to WoW’s 15th anniversary. Among other things, the company is likely to finally announce the release date of Warcraft 3 Reforged at the upcoming event. The remake of the classic RTS was first announced at Blizzcon 2018 so it’s high time we got a release date.
Hopefully, we’ll find out if Blizzard is indeed giving away free copies of Battle for Azeroth to World of Warcraft Classic players before Blizzcon. If not, we may learn more about the alleged promotion during the event. Fingers crossed.
