The Outer Worlds Finally Gets an Official Release Date at E3 2019
The Outer Worlds is one of the big upcoming games we’ve got to feast our eyes on at E3 2019. First showcased during Microsoft’s press conference, the title also made a brief appearance at the PC Gaming Show. Despite the recent controversy related to the exclusivity deal with Epic Games on PC, there are plenty of reasons to look forward to this one regardless of which platform you’re on. Luckily, we don’t have to wait too much longer because The Outer Worlds is launching this fall.
The Outer Worlds is an upcoming sci-fi RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment in Collaboration with Private Division. Obsidian is one of the most renowned RPG makers in the industry. The studio is known for its work on highly acclaimed titles like Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II, and Pillars of Eternity. Among many others. Meanwhile, Private Division is the studio behind the Kerbal Space Program. The company is also currently working on the upcoming survival game, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Needless to say, the collaboration between these two companies is likely to yield something truly exceptional.

An Obsidian Entertainment Game Through and Through
Fans of Obsidian will definitely get a kick out of this. The Outer Worlds features many gameplay elements found in the developer’s previous titles. Right off the bat, it’s pretty obvious that the game shares a lot of similarities with the Fallout series. And not just Fallout: New Vegas but also Fallout 1 and 2. The Outer Worlds doesn’t take place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland like Fallout does but it will feature the same story-driven experience. In addition, this is a game where the choices you make dictate how the story unfolds.
The Outer Worlds is set on Halcyon, a colony located at the far reaches of the galaxy where corporations run the show. Most people never dare to question the corporate machine in this world. However, all that changes when a strange visitor lands on the planet. You are this visitor and it’s your job to uncover the truth behind a conspiracy hidden by Halcyon’s corporations. The way in which you go about uncovering this conspiracy will be entirely up to you.

Hero or Villain – It’s Up to You to Decide
In true Obsidian Entertainment fashion, The Outer Worlds puts a heavy emphasis on role-playing. Whether you want to become a hero or a villain that’s for you alone to decide. The developers revealed late last year that no NPC in the game is marked as essential. In other words, you’re free to kill pretty much anyone you want. That said, this is a game about choices at the end of the day. Killing the wrong characters may lead to negative long-term consequences for the player so keep that in mind.
Despite taking place in a rather bleak futuristic setting, The Outer Worlds will actually have a fairly light tone. At least, if the footage we’ve seen so far is anything to go by. Indeed, the folks over at Obsidian have been known for injecting a healthy dose of humor in some of their past games and it looks like this one will be their funniest title yet.
The Outer Worlds is scheduled to launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
