The Inspirational Story Of Nigeria’s First Computer Game: ‘Titi Tilapia’

A Nigerian man named Idamiebi Ilamina-Eremie has been working hard despite the unfavorable odds to release his first game which turns out to be Nigeria’s first venture into the medium as well. Today is the landmark date upon which the playable demo for the game is released; it certainly offers a game with a different culture than what you may be used to.

Titi Tilapia has been in development since 2008 when Idamiebi decided to stop talking about making a game and start doing it. Since then he has been constantly brushing up his skills and equipment to release the game. With no knowledge of even the basics of coding or business, and not being a particularly capable artist; Idamiebi had a lot of work to do. He did manage to find some help, however, by submitting his story into Lenovo’s “To Those Who Do” Video Contest in which he came third and received 2,000 USD and a Lenovo IdeaPad tablet.

You can see his entry to the contest which outlines his story below:

The game that Idamiebi has been working on all this time, Titi Tilapia is a very cute adventure game in which you play a purple fish who has had all of her eggs stolen by the evil octopus overlord Okoro. Understandably, she sets out with the help of her underwater friends to claim back her eggs. You also play as a turtle in this colourful adventure, as he slides on his belly in an effort to get back more of Titi’s eggs.

You can now download the demo of Titi Tilapia on to your Windows PC by clicking on this link.
