IGM Forum Finds: Nightmare Defender Gives a Boost to Traditional Tower Defense

Defense games come in all shapes and sizes, with educational leanings (like The Counting Kingdom) as well as duality of classification (such as Deadstone). The classic sort of “get off my lawn!” appeal to these games makes them a popular choice for developers, and an appealing choice for gamers who aren’t interested in trying to focus on games with a larger scope. There is fun to be had by many, especially with the extra quirks and abilities added by each development team to make their games stand out.

Nightmare Defender, developed by a husband-and-wife team called DJantel Ware as a side project, has an added advantage for the player in the form of Guards. The free game for Android  revolves around defending your castle from evil nightmare creatures, ranging from the very small to the ridiculously huge. You are able to defend using traditional means (in this case, a bow and arrow), but you can also position these guards, which take the form of different animals, around the perimeter to help with the workload. As you gain points, you can not only upgrade your own weapon attributes, but also apply upgrades to your guards, giving them extra oomph to be more effective in battle. Some will automatically attack the enemy, while others will require your orders to act. Figuring out which of these are more prudent to give upgrades to is part of the challenge.

Guards would help mitigate this scary situation

With potentially limitless gameplay (as the enemies will just keep coming for as long as you’re willing to fight them off), Nightmare Defender might be yet another good choice for those who spend a lot of time waiting, and need something to do. It’s available on Google Play, and if you have any input or commentary, or you just want to give them a shout, you can interact with the devs on their original forum post. Follow DJAntel Ware on Twitter, or “like” the game’s Facebook for more information about future updates.
