IGM Forum Finds: Moonman

Today’s Forum Find comes to us out of Australia, from a developer named Ben Porter. Moonman is a mash-up of procedurally-generated games (it’s called a “virdescent blend” by its creator) like Terraria, and the resemblance is certainly there, but rather than building up your world to make your character the strongest they can be, the main character in Moonman needs to find seven pieces of a moon in order to restore light to the planet, which has been shrouded in darkness for quite some time.

Moonman has been in development by Porter for three years, and changes made to the game over the years can be viewed on his devblog; it’s been quite a journey. The towns, dungeons, terrain, etc. are random each time you play, and you must not only search for the moon pieces, but also build a home and defend yourself from the creatures that inhabit the area. In addition to searching your surroundings for moon pieces, apparently some can be found inside the creatures, so you’d better collect your best gear and go hunting!

Moonman is also on Kickstarter, where it’s already surpassed 64% of its $35,000 AUD goal. Reward tiers range from $20 for a pre-Alpha build before the official release, to $1,000 for all previous tiers, and a mention in the title screen of Moonman. Follow Ben Porter on Twitter, or check out the original forum post, for more information (and to contact him with questions or comments).
