Gamescom 2019: THQ Nordic Teases Three New Game Announcements

Publisher THQ Nordic just revealed its full lineup of games that will be present next month at Gamescom 2019. The company is prepared to showcase six titles this year, including a couple of highly anticipated new projects. In addition, the publisher mentioned that fans can also look forward to three new game announcement. All games listed below will be playable at the event.

One of THQ Nordic’s biggest games expected at Gamescom 2019 is Biomutant. The upcoming title is an action RPG currently in development at Experiment 101. The studio has been around for some time but Biomutant is actually its debut project. Needless to say, there’s a lot riding on it. From what we’ve seen so far, though, the game looks very promising. Biomutant features some unique ideas that should easily allow it to stand out from other games in the genre. Biomutant is set to release later this year for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Desperados 3

Desperados 3 is a real-time tactics game in the vein of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. The title is being developed by Mimimi Products, the same folks who brought us Blades of the Shogun in 2016. The Desperados series has been dormant for quite a while so we’re glad Mimimi are finally bringing it back. Desperados 3 is set to release later this year for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Darksiders Genesis

Airship Syndicate’s Darksiders Genesis was one of the big reveal earlier this year at E3 2019. Genesis is a two-player co-op game that lets players pick between Strife or War, two horsemen of the Apocalypse. Just as its name suggests, Genesis is a prequel to the other Darksiders games. Darksiders Genesis is also expected to arrive in 2019 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia.

Destroy All Humans

Also at Gamescom 2019, THQ Nordic is finally letting fans get their hands on Destroy All Humans. The hotly anticipated remake aims to stay faithful to the 2005 original while offering much better graphics along with a number of other improvements. Destroy All Humans currently doesn’t have a release date. However, developers Black Forest Games and Pandemic Studios confirmed that it won’t launch before 2020.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated

The final title confirmed by THQ Nordic is another remake, this time of an officially licensed SpongeBob game. The upcoming title is clearly aimed primarily at fans of the cartoon series. That said, it may also find an audience outside of that as it looks quite fun. The remake currently doesn’t have an official release date.

Unannounced Projects

THQ Nordic confirmed that an announced new game will also be playable at Gamescom 2019. The company is keeping things under wraps so there's no other info regarding this mysterious game at the moment. We'll only be able to find out what it is once the event starts.

THQ Nordic also mentioned that two other unannounced games will be present at the event. Unfortunately, these titles will be behind closed doors and not available to the general public. More info regarding THQ's upcoming projects can be found on their official website.

Gamescom 2019 takes place between August 20-24 in Cologne, Germany.
