Final Fantasy VII Remake Release Date and Special Editions Announced
As expected, the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake absolutely stole the show at Square Enix's E3 2019 press conference. The game has been in development for many years but now it looks like it’s almost ready to launch. The publisher revealed just before the event started that the game will officially launch next year at long last.
In addition to announcing the release date, Square Enix also showcased a new trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake. The trailer is basically a recreation of the original FFVII’s opening and features many familiar faces. Some of the characters you may recognize include Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith. We also got a glimpse of everyone’s favorite one-winged villain, Sephiroth. Based on the trailer, there will be a couple of differences between the remake and the original in the opening sequences. But nothing too big, though.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Special Editions
As it’s often the case nowadays, the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be available in several different versions. You’ve got the Standard Edition, the Deluxe Edition, and the 1st Class Edition. The Standard Edition is pretty straightforward and only includes the game itself. However, you can grab the Chocobo Chick Summon Materia DLC if you were pre-order from the Square Enix Store.
Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition is a bit more expensive but includes a few physical and digital goodies in order to sweeten the deal. Aside from the game itself, you can also look forward to an artbook, mini-soundtrack CD, and a Sephiroth SteelBook Case. Also included are the Cactuar Summon Materia and Carbuncle Summon Materia DLCs. The Chocobo Chick Summon Materia is available for pre-orders of the Deluxe Edition as well.
Last but not least, there’s the Final Fantasy VII Remake 1st Class Edition. This one is quite expensive but it comes with some collector’s items that fans of the series will surely not want to miss. These include the Play Arts Kai Cloud Strife action figure and his trusty Hardy Daytona motorcycle. The figurines are very detailed and would look fantastic on a shelf next to the physical version of the game. In addition to the figurines, the 1st Class Edition also includes everything found in the Deluxe Edition.

The First Episode Launches in March
The original Final Fantasy VII was a massive game and the remake will be no different. The remake is going to be so big, in fact, that it will require two whole Blu-ray discs just to contain the sheer amount of content available. That said, the content will not be available all at once. Unfortunately. Square Enix revealed that the Final Fantasy VII Remake will actually launch gradually across multiple episodes.
The very first episode is set to release on March 3rd, 2020 and will feature the opening act of the game. There’s no telling when the other parts are expected to launch but it may take a couple more years until we can play the next episode. Still, the game looks great from what we’ve seen until now so the wait will definitely be worth it.
