‘Asylum Master’ Combating Mental Health In Victorian England

After seeing Introversions take on prison management it was only a matter of time until others decided to venture down paths less trodden and break from convention. Adrian Schef seems to be one of the advantageous ones to break away and begin working on a game focused around mental asylums.

Asylum Master throws the player into control over patients in a mental asylum in 19th century Victorian England. This is a very interesting time period for this field of medical research, with a lot of unorthodox and very terrible treatments making this field was quite a grim one, but one that would work very well for a video game.

The Victorian era was one of learning and they did find out a great deal about mental health over this interesting period, along with having some very distinct stylings. The Victorian era really is the perfect period for a game about asylums.

Adrian Schef has knocked up his proof of concept model for this game in around one month. It showcases a lot of the fantastic stylings resembling Victorian Britain. A very unconventional game it seems from the brief  demo, but one I am sure could be expanded upon greatly.

The demo really doesn’t do this game justice, it merely shows the general idea but I am sure with extra development this can really become a very different and stand out title.

The concept is great and the framing seems good, all that is left is the most difficult part. The development. Adrian Schef has found that putting together this small demo piece to be much more taxing than original thought so he is now calling for the great gaming community to jump in.

On his blog found here he asks if people would be willing to support this game if he were to launch an IndieGoGo project. It is on this note I encourage you all to head over to Afrian Schef’s blog try the demo yourself read the full blog entry and make up your mind if you would love to see this concept become a full game.

If you do I encourage you to write notes about what you think so far and how it could be taken on this blog page and really get involved in this idea because it does look very interesting and no doubt a finished product would be very entertaining.
