Striking Color and Pitch Darkness Mingle in hets
The screenshots of hets are definitely strange. Its striking use of color, darkness, and light make the game really pop when it’s in motion, as do the other characters in the game. Looking like they’re being doodled over and over again as the player goes through the game, these characters shift and shake constantly. It’s a game full of odd visual effects, feeling subtly eerie while at the same time providing fun shooting gameplay.
As the game begins, our unknown character is handed a gun and told to shoot the statues he sees. Do that, and a door opens to the next area. The whole place is quite dark, with brilliant colored lights washing over some areas of the game. Your own shots will also provide light, so if you don’t know what’s ahead of you, a few blasts should clear things up. Those shots pack a wallop, too, throwing the character back when he fires and making the screen shake. If you manage to shoot your way through an area, you’ll be given an upgrade to escape the next stage.
Seeing bright colors washed all over the black screen looks sharp, and the trembling characters have this unique draw to them as well. It looks simple, as if many of the game’s objects are just scribbled in paint, but the way they move and vibrate is just captivating. It makes the game seem much more surreal and odd.
If you like what you see, you can pay what you want for the bizarre experience that is hets on Ditto’s itch.io site. Maybe then one of you could tell me what the heck’s going on in this insane, weird world.
