Competitive Tower Defense Game Invites You to Fight ‘Fire with Fire’
Countless tower defense games have us play as architects of defense, safeguarding some livelihood from an onslaught of creeps, with ever-evolving statistics. In Fire with Fire, players will sit on both ends, assuming the game reaches its goal on Kickstarter
Shaking off the usual single-player formula for this genre, creator Theory Georgiou wants to use today’s technology to let people play “online with anyone anywhere at anytime on almost any device!” The game is set to release on PC, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and Ouya, so it will be hard to miss.
Fire with Fire flows like this: Each player selects a set of towers and creeps, then either builds defenses or arranges creep waves, ideally typecasting the creatures to be most effective against select towers. Although the game arena is open, there’s a dotted path that shows exactly where the little creatures march. Building towers grants Tech Points that allow you to upgrade them. Similarly, the more a Creep is used, the more it levels up, even unlocking a more advanced one that was paired in the selection. Playing matches grants experience and Seed Points, which let you craft your profile to your preferred style of play, choosing buffs in desired fields. Achievements grant Seed Points as well.
Sound sweet? There are a few caveats that you should know: The game is participating in Ouya’s #FreeTheGames Fund, which means that if the team of three developers meet their $10,000 goal, the game will be an exclusive for the platform for some time, however, a PC version will be released at the same time. The other platforms will have to come later. The team’s been working on the project for two years, and is finally on the home stretch, filling it with content.
Check out the Kickstarter campaign to get acquainted with some more details about Fire with Fire. As little as 6$ gets Beta access, some game content, and an exclusive wallpaper. Also note that the team is aiming to get the game Greenlit.
Notably, reaching the $10,001 hurdle unlocks the “Potato Salad” tier, which will have Georgiou cooking his own recipe on camera.
