Live Like Tom Hanks In ‘Under The Ocean’, Latest Alpha Released

The whole building survival crazy we have seen in the recent years was undoubtedly kicked off (at least into the mainstream) by that of Minecraft from Mojang. Following this hit many developers have decided to take their own stance on the genre, with Re-Logic taking a much more 2D platforming stance, to other developers such as Paul Greasley in his fantastic own vision of the genre.

Paul Greasley originally created Under the Garden a 2010 smash hit title, although very limited graphically the gameplay was solid and really took the idea of survival to another level. Two years later and he is back with Under The Ocean an even more polish take on the survival construction genre.

In Under The Ocean you start out Shipwrecked, stepping into Tom Hanks’ shoes as you look to survive this wilderness with only some small remnants of the ship left. You must use what you can and begin to overcome the many issues involved in being plucked from society and stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Under The Ocean has many new fantastic elements, it contains a lot of the survival aspects seen in other games. Introducing thirst and hunger along with disease and all manner of other issues that can occur. Coupled with this survival sim you have to construct all manner of contraptions and of course the basic shelter to being to survive long term on this uncharted island.

Although still in alpha Under The Ocean is already shaping up fantastically with ever improving crafting facilities and now a free formed zero gravity construction mode. This mode will allow you to design all manner of structures without the restrictions gravity puts in. Of course once you return to the real world gravity will kick in again but I take this as more a blueprint mode.

The latest Alpha 2 patch really does seem to add a great deal of extra functionality to the game and with much more to come Under The Ocean looks to be quite the formidable title. If you are a fan of this growing genre I would suggest helping these guys out as they seem to be doing a fantastic job here. Check out the official site here which will also allow you to get involved.
