Space Grimrock: Sci-Fi Dungeon Crawler Spotted

Even though we’re all for creative originality down these parts, we’ll readily acknowledge a developer who builds successfully on a set of pre-existing ideas. That’s why we’ve got our eye on an as-yet untitled sci-fi dungeon crawler that aims to channel the cognitive engagement and capacity for exploration and discovery made trendy once more by Almost Human Games’ Legend of Grimrock.

The game in question was created by a developer going under the pseudonym Jonsovv using Epic’s Unreal Development Kit tools and, thus, is a predictably vibrant affair from a graphical point of view. Much in the same vein as Grimrock, it’s an experience that appears to be dominated by wide, rangy corridors, albeit spruced up with some impressive light/dark contrast. Take a look at the latest build of the game, still very much in its early stages of development, below.

There’s really no telling how long we can expect to wait until the game is playable, or what changes we’re likely to see as the development process chugs along, but we’re certainly pondering what could be a pretty special use of the editing tools available to regular Joes in this day and age. For more information on the ongoing creative rigmarole behind the game, take a look at this thread on the Epic Games forum.
