Epic Space RPG ‘Dangerous’ Launches; Looks Very Impressive
Binary Helix have just launched their multiplatform space RPG Dangerous – trying to avoid being over excited about it is proving difficult. Those who have played it are making comparisons with EVE Online and Freelancer style combat in a spacious sandbox with potentially Mass Effect and/or Knights of the Old Republic equivalent depth to the characters, culture and story.
Dangerous was made available to buy on the first day of 2012 so it seems a fitting game to recover from that hangover. Impressively, the game is available on PC, Mac, iOS and very soon Android as well once the Android Market restrictions have been surpassed. You may be sceptical especially if you’re a PC player, but Dangerous seems to be one of the most in-depth games ever made for smartphones, so there’s plenty of reason pay attention.
Seriously, the features list is impressive enough in itself, but let’s pick out the highlights: “space combat RPG with extensive skill tree”, “open and living universe where 600+ ships fly around autonomously”, “trade, fight, mine, pirate, scan for derelict ships and wormholes”, “20+ ships, 180+ modules, 33 solar systems with a unique follow-through-warp mechanic”, “the epic story asks: Are you a hero or war criminal? Defender of slavers, cults, or freedom? Human or something else?”
I am not sure about you but I am sold on those features alone, and that’s not even half of the features list! The story intrigues me as well:
“You have been awoken from cryo sleep a century later, and must discover the truth. Are you the feared war criminal or the savior of the universe or both? Gather your wingmen and travel the galaxy in search of answers. Along the way, you’ll encounter a Universal AI, a shadow group protecting the future, a cult bent on apocalypse, a runaway princess, a schizophrenic robot, a beautiful lieutenant of the Royal Navy, a fearsome mercenary, a suicidal slave, and a playboy fighter ace. Discover intrigue, betrayal, love, and redemption.”
Probably the best thing about Dangerous is that there are demos for the PC and Mac versions that are the whole game except that you cannot spend your earned experience.
For those who want it on their iOS device, it is actually on sale at the moment to celebrate the launch, so head off to the App Store and get it for cheap while you can.
You can find much more information about Dangerous at the game’s official website.
