Rubber Ducky and the Rainbow Gun – Making Block-Shooting Lots of Fun!

A square duck in a square world finds a gun that shoots rainbows. It’s a simple game, a perplexing concept, and the story behind Rubber Ducky and the Rainbow Gun, a game by Cr2Cr Studios.

John Szymanski, one of the developers, describes the game as “a bit like trying to destroy a wall made of potato chips with a weapon that shoots stuffed animals – hectic, short-lived, and at some points involving lizards.” The goal is to use your rainbow gun to shoot all of the enemies — manifesting as large squares, for the most part — as they invade from all directions. Ducky is played using your mouse to point and click in the direction you wish to shoot, while using your standard directional keys (WASD) to navigate around the screen.

After a level is complete, the player can use points earned to customize Rubber Ducky, including turning him into an alligator-like creature. The point is, simply, to have fun and not let yourself get overwhelmed by enemies. This single-screen action shooter aims to be played in one sitting, with 5 levels being moderately simple, and 5 being quite difficult. The soundtrack adds even more color to the palette, with bouncy beats meant to energize.

The game is available as a free download at Cr2Cr’s website, or if you’d prefer, you can purchase it on itch.io to help support the developers.
