Chilean Studio Readying Up For Fun In ‘Throneless Kings’
This is a really cool story, if only because it’s a video game studio that shares my love of Terry Pratchett!
Artmament Games, an up and coming studio out of Santiago, Chile, are hard at work on the action adventure game Throneless Kings. So far the game is very early in development, but judging from the artwork you can see here things are certainly headed in the right direction. The team is in need of your help though. In order to turn dreams into reality.
But first, the story. You play the young dwarven prince Rurik (the big huggable hero above) who accidentally allows a group of deadly Orcs to invade his father’s castle (as you do). Rurik and his dwarven pals must find a way to remove the threat before Daddy dearest returns home to find the party has gone overboard and calls the police … sounds like my party from last week, though with less Orcs and more Goblins.
Artmament currently has a fundraising campaign all set up with the aim of turning this hopeful little title into a full production and release on both PC and online based platforms at a later date. Finances will cover the costs of expanding their 3D animation and programming teams along with a boost to the sound department and eventually publication.
Despite the lack of funding the young studio has already done well for itself, having created their own software development kit codenamed SOL.SDK. The pre-production artwork also has a ton of charm and colour to set it apart from the pack, as you can see above. Huggable is actually the right word to use. I mean just look at them! It’s the kind of creation that suits a plush toy, wouldn’t you say? Someone get on that.
Artmament are hoping to follow in the footsteps of classic action adventure series, that of the great Legend of Zelda series. But as I mentioned before, they’re also greatly inspired by the one and only Terry Pratchett, the creator of the much loved Discworld franchise. The stories and themes on show here will combine these two big names in fantasy entertainment, so you can expect plenty of humour, dungeon crawling, puzzle solving and quirky characters during Rurik’s quest.
