Reboot Overhauls the Data Hacker Series

Fractured Reality’s appropriately titled Reboot, the latest in the Data Hacker series, revamps the old-school style RPG with newfound vitality: This includes adding a brand new engine and quality voice acting.

Reboot is a classic 2D RPG with a party system and an involving storyline. In the Data Hacker games, the online worlds surrounding us start to impact the real, blending the lines between the two. The characters can visit many of the fragmented worlds, traveling around, finding sanctuary for themselves as well as offering protection indiscriminately. At the beginning, the protagonist, Thanier, goes in search of his sister, Anyia, who left for an unknown reason.

“What is an RPG without a good story?” the Kickstarter page writes. “The story that has been laid out is an intricate one that covers the inter-weaving stories up several individuals, and it’s going to take patience and a level-head to pull this off! Fortunately, I am highly confident in my ability to deliver an epic tale.”

Reboot features a party of seven unique, developed characters that fight in traditional, side-view combat. Characters can hack into monsters and people, as well as bond with familiars to get various skills. There’s also a card mini game included, called Trioarch, and a town management sim, involving regulating the incoming refugees. The art improves a lot over the last two entries, and the game features professionally voice-acted lines. When Reboot launches, it will contain the first Act in a planned multi-episode series.

The campaign is well on its way to success, with about half of the £3,800 funded, but those interested are encouraged to support the title so that stretch goals can be reached. £8 grants Beta access as well as the full game when it’s released.
