Screenshot Weekly – No Sleep for the Drug-dealing Exorcist
Welcome back to Screenshot Weekly! Every Tuesday, IGM brings you exclusive looks at upcoming games in various stages of development. The featured image introducing each game will always be original, and made especially for IGM, so you’ll see them for the first time right here (make sure to click the pics to see them in their full screen glory)! Without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s screenshots:
Basement
With a title like Basement, there are a few directions this game could go. Horror, I-Spy, or even a life sim about the life of a nerd. (Like me.) Curiously, Dmitri Minsky and Co. at Halfbus opted for a different approach. As Minsky explains, “Basement is a drug-dealing strategy game. You play as a bright scientist who is forced to go underground both literally and figuratively to gain money for his great and noble idea that no investor wishes to support. Basement is, in the first place, a game about management. You build your own enterprise, the main focus of which is drug production; so keep it low-profile, carefully use space, hire extra hands and protect your humble business from federals and raise the most effective company!” Key features include random events, inspections, and even prison time if you get caught. Just like real life! More info can be found on the game’s website and Twitter page.
Exorcism
With a title like Exorcism… ah, I won’t keep you in suspense. Exorcism is a twin-stick shooter that shakes up the genre by adding RPG mechanics and a focus on narrative. According to the development team at Slush Games, “The game takes place in a Gothic fantasy world, where dark creatures terrorize peaceful people. It is the dawn of a dark age – a time when people can’t live their usual lives. To protect those people, there are special forces called Exorcists – and you play as one of them: A girl named Dana. She uses her crossbows and magic skills to wipe out this unholy mess.” Slush Games is a small studio in Russia completing the game in their free time, so they have no planned release date. Still, they are targeting an initial launch for iOS and Android devices, followed by a release on PC and PS Vita if all goes according to plan. You can follow the team on Twitter to stay in the loop about Exorcism.
That Which Sleeps
Now this one has to be a horror game, right? Right?? Wrong. Joshua Perry of King Dinosaur Games explained that, “That Which Sleeps is a turn based strategy game in which the player takes on the role of an awakened evil from the world’s past and must manipulate a living, reactive world from the shadows using a cast of unique corrupted Agents. The player must balance an aggressive approach utilizing his considerable power and eager hordes with the need to remain unknown to the Champions and Heroes of the world. You must be sure that when your name is again spoken by mortal tongues that it is spoken in dread, for it is too late to stop That Which Sleeps.” I have to admit, it sounds pretty cool getting the chance to play as the bad guy for a change. Not enough games let you cut loose and assume the role of an ancient evil. Anyway, check the website for more info, and keep up with the devlog and Twitter page for updates.
