Kickstart This: Seven Dragon Saga Enters Final Stage of Development

If you’re a fan of old-school roleplaying games, you might want to sit down.

Tactical Simulations Interactive (TSI) is a team of developers who are veterans of the genre, having worked on classic titles like Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds from the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons lineup. Now they’ve come together and are putting the final touches on their interpretation of a modern fantasy classic called Seven Dragon Saga.

The classically styled roleplaying game is based on an original pen-and-paper game system designed by Keith Brors and David Shelley, formerly of Strategic Simulations Interactive. It is a troubled time in the Empire of the Seven Dragons, and the player will need to assemble a small team of heroes to “embark on a quest to discover hidden truths and determine the fate of the Empire.” Built in the Unity3D engine, the game features a mix of turn-based tactical combat, traditional RPG elements, and modern gameplay.

The development team has been funding the game on their own up to this point. Now, with completion near at hand, they have opened a Kickstarter to invite the public to help with the final round of expenses. They hope to raise $450,000 USD by April 13, 2015. As incentives, TSI is offering gifts such as copies of the original pen-and-paper game’s rulebook, a clue book to guide players throughout the adventure, a fabric version of the game map, access to the early Beta, and even your name inscribed on an in-game tombstone. They anticipate releasing the game in late 2016 for PC, Mac, and Linux.
