Fan of Sly Cooper? You Can Expect A New Game Soon
The Sly Cooper series, developed by Sucker Punch, was a pillar on the PlayStation 2. It comes from the same team that’s behind the Ghost of Tsushima. Sly Cooper had three titles on PlayStation 2, with a fourth one released on PlayStation 3 nearly a decade later.
The Sly Cooper series takes players on the adventures of Sly Cooper, who is an anthropomorphic raccoon and master thief. He pursues his quests along with Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippopotamus, all of whom are chased by Inspector Carmelita Fox, who happens to be Sly's love interest.
Most fans of Sly Cooper haven’t seen anything about it ever since the 2013’s resurgence- Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. The lead designer of Thieves in Time, Matt Kraemer, is now very keen to bring about a change.
The Sly Cooper series was well-received as a whole and fondly remembered by fans. The fond memories evoked by the game series look like the key reason why Kraemer wants to revive the series. Interestingly, the re-introduction would only make sense with the last entry ending in a cliffhanger. Not to mention, 3D platformers have soared tremendously since their previous release.
Kraemer loves Sly Cooper. The first episode of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was meant to be Egypt in Sly Tutankhamen, provided with downloadable content. This was the original intention, but the developers couldn’t materialize the plan. Hence, Kraemer and his team at Sanzaru brought the story and the whole episode out in the paper form.
Story of Sly Cooper
The universe of Sly Cooper is a slice taken from the real world that is mushrooming with anthropomorphic animals. The primary focus of the plot is the character Sly Cooper, a raccoon. He is also the latest successor in a gang of master thieves who pass down their smart techniques from generation to generation. Wondering how they do this? They use the “Thievius Raccoonus,” a book that has all the secrets and tricks of the Cooper family.
The Cooper family collected a massive amount of wealth through their thieving ways. Sly values his friendship with his two partners in crime. The trio is known as the Cooper Gang, and they orchestrate major heists all over the world. Their purpose is often to take down dangerous bands of criminals, as the goal of the Cooper family is only to loot other thieves. While doing so, they also have to prevent themselves from being caught by Inspector Carmelita Fox.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was unveiled during the 2011 Sony E3 Keynote and formally released on February 5, 2013. In this title, Sly Cooper and the whole Cooper gang come back with a brand new adventure for PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita systems. The pages of the family book, Thievius Raccoonus, are vanishing, and Bentley, now the keeper of this book, must get the gang together and safeguard the Cooper Clan legacy from being ruined forever.
With the newly invented time machine of Bentley, the Cooper gang and Inspector Carmelita travel back in time to control the various followers of the main villain, Cyrille Le Paradox. This villain is set to replace the Coopers as the new master thief of the Cooper universe. While progressing through the game, the gang partners with several of Sly's ancestors. All this happens while Sly must deal with the result of the inspector (and his love interest) finding out that his amnesia was pretentious at the end of the previous game, Sly Cooper: Honor Among Thieves.
The Sly Cooper series has become two comic books and a couple of spin-off games, one of them being Bentley's Hackpack developed by Sanzaru Games. The character of the series himself has become one of the most popular characters of the Sony video game. Not to forget, Sly Cooper has also made appearances in other Sony games such as PlayStation Move Heroes and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
The Sly Cooper series is originally from Sucker Punch. The comeback series with Thieves in Time was created by Sanzaru Games, who is most recently applauded for the VR game Asgard's Wrath. If the title returns, the fraternity is not clear whether Sanzaru Games would require approval from Sucker Punch. The indie gaming market’s biggest selling factor has always been nostalgia. So, a new Sly Cooper has a high chance of success, especially if the same enthusiastic team is working on its development.
