LoL Tier List Ranked From Best to Worst [Patch 9.18]
MOBAs can be difficult to get into if you don’t have any previous experience with this genre, which is why we created an LoL tier list specifically for new players. As a newcomer to League of Legends, you’ll have to learn not just the game’s many unique mechanics but also its many champions if you want to be successful.
That can be very time-consuming given that there are well over 100 champions to choose from. Don’t worry, though, because this list will help you get started on the right foot.
We used a simple system to rank all the game’s champions based on their usefulness and popularity in the current meta. Each champion was placed into one of six tiers, ranging from S to E. Just in case you’re not already familiar with this system, the S tier contains the strongest champions while the E tier contains the weakest ones. Champions within each tier are not ranked but rather listed alphabetically.
With that out of the way, check out our LoL tier list down below, complete with our brief opinions on some of our favorite champions at the moment.
S Tier
Top Lane
Aaatrox
Darius
Darius can handle himself very well against pretty much anybody. Ideally, you’ll want to be very aggressive when playing this champion and focus on stacking as many instances of Hemorrhage as possible on your opponents.
Mordekaiser
Jungle
Hecarim
Kayn
Mid Lane
Katarina
Katarina is a fantastic damage dealer who shines at taking down enemies quickly and efficiently. Although she’s not half-bad when playing top lane, you’re generally expected to go for mid as Katarina in the current meta.
Zed
Bottom Lane
Ezreal
Sivir
Kai’Sa
Support
Lux
Morgana
Some might be surprised that we decided to place Morgana this high on our LoL tier list but what can we say, we really enjoy her versatility. Morgana can not only protect allies in need but she can also deal decent AoE damage while healing herself at the same time.
Yuumi
A Tier
Top Lane
Gangplank
Illaoi
Garen
Nasus
If you’re looking for a top laner that excels at crippling enemy champions look no further than Nasus. The Curator of the Sands can reduce the movement and attack speed of your opponents with Wither while also reducing their armor with Spirit Fire. Add to that the fact that his Siphoning Strike gets increasingly more powerful throughout the game and you’ve got yourself a ver well-rounded champion.
Renekton
Riven
Tryndamere
Jungle
Evelynn
Jarvan IV
Jarvan IV is a very solid jungler in patch 9.15. The reason why we like the Emperor of Demacia is because he can hold his own against enemy champions who might try to gank him in the early game. He is also a great initiator in team fights who can isolate key targets thanks to his ultimate ability, Cataclysm.
Karthus
Kha'Zix
Lee Sin
Rengar
Mid Lane
Ahri
Corki
Diana
Although some players prefer to use Diana as a jungler, in path 9.15 she really shines on the mid lane. Diana’s passive, Moonsilver Blade, is perfect for aggressive players who like to harass their opponents while her Pale Cascade ability can help keep her alive in case she ever gets overwhelmed. That shouldn’t happen often, though, because the rest of her kit is really helpful at spotting enemies that try to sneak up on you.
Talon
Vladimir
Yasuo
Bottom Lane
Caitlyn
Draven
Jhin
Jinx
Jinx is a very fun champion who has had plenty of ups and down over the years. In the current meta, she is definitely one of the strongest bottom laners in the game and that’s probably not going to change anytime soon.
Tristana
Twitch
Xayah
Support
Brand
Just like the fire he embodies, it takes a while until Brand gets started but once he does, it’s pretty difficult to stop him. He’s certainly not the tankiest champion out there but what he lacks in defensive capabilities he more than makes up for on the offensive.
Janna
Karma
Nami
Pyke
Thresh
B Tier
Top Lane
Fiora
Irelia
Tahm Kench
Teemo
Teemo, the unofficial mascot of League of Legends, is a very annoying champion to play against. Playing as Teemo isn't necessarily all that fun either but it's a good idea to try him out and familiarize yourself with his kit just so you'll know what to expect when you inevitably come up against him. Make no mistake, Teemo was designed to be irritating and that hasn't changed in patch 9.15.
Urgot
Jungle
Graves

Final Thoughts
We hope our LoL tier list will be of some help regardless of whether you’re a new player or a veteran just trying to keep up to date with the current meta. The meta is pretty stable at the moment but we expect some things to change as we approach the 2019 League of Legends Worlds Championship. It’s worth noting that his list was created with solo queue in mind so your mileage may vary significantly during some matches if you use it as a reference when playing other game modes.
We only talked briefly about a few of the champions because there are way too many of them to cover. However, if you want to learn more about certain League of Legends champions, make sure to check them out over on the official website.
