ZHEROS – Intergalactic Body Slams

Good combo systems in video games are very viscerally satisfying things. The fluid, wonderful feeling of turning one attack into another, and then another, and then maybe another, is something most players have had the pleasure of experiencing, and it continues to be an excellent basis around which to build a game’s combat.

Rimlight Studios’ ZHEROS is looking to be that kind of game, and focuses on the exploits of Mike and Captain Dorian as they try to save the world from destruction by robots and aliens. Mike is a grotesquely mannish character, with an enormous upper body, tiny legs, and a chin larger than his actual head. He flings himself about levels, smashing anything that gets near him and somehow swinging each attack into another, equally destructive one. Captain Dorian, meanwhile, is an expert fighter, and moves gracefully from strike to strike, each of her moves leading easily from one to another.

Together, the two have to defeat Dr. Vendetta, who apparently is trying to become “the chaos bearer,” as well as hiding a darker secret. Currently, there is no word either on what a chaos bearer is, or if Dr. Vendetta’s secret is that “Vendetta” is not his real last name.

ZHEROS is being released sometime this year on the Xbox One, though there is currently no proper release date. The game is being released through Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program, which many may remember was Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s highly successful program of getting indie games onto their line of Playstation devices. You can find out more about the game here, as well as find out more about Rimlight Studios here.
