We Slay Monsters is a Deadly Game of Poker

We Slay Monsters, the most recent title from Furiously Inactive Games, has recently become available as an early access download for only $4.99. We Slay Monsters is a title that streamlines the rogue-like, dungeon crawling experience, but also adds an intriguing twist: Combat is card-based, but in a poker-esque way.

Designed to be played in short bursts, We Slay Monsters still features all that we have come accustomed to in a dungeon crawler. It has classes – wizard, rogue, warrior, and cleric – that each have their own unique decks, dungeon exploration, and monsters. There is also perma-death, because no rogue-like should ever be without it. But where We Slay Monsters truly shines from the other games of this ilk is in its battle system, that plays by the rules of poker, with some small differences. There are six suits instead of four, face values of 1-10, and no aces, kings, queens, or jacks. Hands valid in poker are also valid within the battles here, and such things as flushes result in super attacks.

As previously stated, We Slay Monsters is available now with early access for only $4.99. The game is also undergoing a Steam Greenlight campaign, so those willing should head over and give a vote to this neat little rogue-like. The game is set to be released in the Fall of this year for Windows, Mac, and iOS.
