Star Drop may sound like an enticing piece of candy, but it’s actually a physics-based puzzle game from Brute Force Games. It’s available on iOS devices right now, providing something of a mix between Angry Birds and geometric shapes.
Brute Force Games’ puzzler revolves around destroying objects with a limited number of stars, a few explosives, and well-thought-out shots, making the most of the physics to bounce or aim stars in the fastest or highest-scoring way. The studio stated that the game’s level design was planned in order to give player’s the most freedom possible in progressing. Will they prefer to aim one well-placed shot, in order to send shapes tumbling into one another? Or would they rather collide one star with another, sending out a shockwave of destruction that breaks down all around it?
The visuals and audio of Star Drop are decidedly retro, with “graphics [that] are nostalgically retro yet flashy” and a “catchy chiptune-style soundtrack”. It appears to marry a modern day fling-and-smash style of gameplay with sights and sounds of older generations.
Star Drop is available on the App Store for free, and to keep up to date with the latest projects out of Brute Force Games, head on over to their website. If you do decide to pick it up, be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.
