Pera Games is currently seeking funding for their new turn-based rogue-like RPG, Overfall. The game puts players in control of a pair of swarthy adventurers who are roaming the high seas in search of a lost king. How the king became lost in the first place is not known. Regardless, the intrepid travelers are now sailing all over a procedurally generated world, fighting and befriending fellow mariners as they go.
Combat is turn-based, and puts the combatants on a hexagonal grid. Adding to the tension, death is permanent in Overfall, as the Rogue-like moniker suggests. Also drawn from other modern Rogue-likes is the idea of gaining new classes and abilities, which carry over into new playthroughs, giving players other ways to try playing as they progress.
The game also features dynamic interactions, meaning players can choose how they want to treat each group of mariners that they encounter. Similarly, those mariners don’t necessarily have to give players the time of day, simply attempting to kill the player if they so choose.
Overfall is asking for $65,000 USD in order to finish up the game and give it the polish that the developers feel it deserves. Those interested can check out Overfall’s website, their Kickstarter if they’d like to support it, and/or the Turkish developer’s website. The game will be released initially for Windows and Mac, and will be ported to other devices if enough money is raised.
