Indie development studio Secret Igloo brought a story and character-based adventure to mobile devices titled Puzzle Axe. Using a reinvented jigsaw puzzle system, the game promises “unexpected plot elements as well as high quality animation videos” to progress the narrative.
Puzzle Axe follows a story set in a kingdom where the royal family is known for owning magical axes. When the older prince steals one and starts a rampage, it’s up to the younger prince to chase after him and effectively save the universe. In order to separate themselves from standard and existing jigsaw puzzle type games, Secret Igloo incorporated moving pieces, several different game mechanics, and an evolving soundtrack that follows the progression of each level. Each successful effort at a puzzle moves the story along, told through several different videos that total about 10 minutes in length.
Puzzle Axe is intended for an audience of all ages, though was designed to be most appealing to kids. The Numix Award-winning game, and also the first game ever developed by Secret Igloo, is available for iOS and Android mobile devices. A free version is offered that comprises 4 levels, while an in-app purchase of $1.99 will give access to 25 levels.
