Quick question – which would you rather play, a puzzle game or a good old-fashioned dungeon crawler? If you can’t choose, don’t worry. Puzzle’n’Slash lets you have both.
The adventure puzzler, currently being crafted by Canadian developer BolshoiDuke, melds classic dungeon exploration with turn-based tile-matching action. Players will venture down into a creature-filled dungeon with their choice of six unique heroes; the full selection includes the Barbarian, Monk, Warrior, Hunter, Dwarf, and Mage. Each hero comes with their own unique gear and five special abilities.
Players must take on more than thirty enemies and try to outwit their distinct strategies while matching tiles. Longer chains of matching tiles offer more powerful attacks; the more tiles matched, the greater the damage players can do to an enemy on-screen. As they progress through the adventure, the heroes will level up. Collecting loot will allow players to increase their skills, and various upgrades offer some customization options. Those in need of a breather can leave the dungeon and return to town, where they can make use of the training facilities and amenities provided by the blacksmith and armory.
To help them make Puzzle’n’Slash the game they envision, the developers are hoping to raise $40,000 CAD through their current Kickstarter. If all goes according to plan, the game will release for PC and Mac in or about December 2015. They would also welcome any support for the game on Steam Greenlight.
