Frozenbyte Aims for Classic Stealth Gameplay With Shadwen

Frozenbyte, the developer behind the platformer series Trine, recently announced its upcoming stealth game, Shadwen. The developer intends to bring the stealth genre back to its roots through use of some standardized game mechanics.

In the game, the player must focus on one simple trade-off: remain hidden or die.

Shadwen, an assassin and the title’s protagonist, is followed around by a young orphan named Lily and it’s up to the player whether Lily witnesses Shadwen’s assaults or remains unaware of her deadly agenda.

According to Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvärinen, “The stealth genre has been in a slump for years. Guns blazing and invincible heroes is not stealth. Yearly revisions like sports roster updates is a crap way of doing games.” Hyvärinen goes on to say, “Shadwen will bring the genre back to its roots, with sneaking and hiding the main course of action. We will also explore the moral consequences of killing through our characters.”

It’s a safe bet that the player’s actions in front of Lily will factor into that “moral consequences” business that Hyvärinen mentioned.

Specific launch details are currently unavailable, but the project is planned for a 2016 release. For more information, check out Shadwen on Facebook, Twitter, and the official website.
