The last, great frontier. That is where players embark in the upcoming game from studio System Era Softworks. Astroneer is a third-person scifi exploration sandbox game that features drop-in co-op. Set in the 25th century during a great gold rush, players risk everything to explore the vastness of space in hopes to secure their claim.
The most useful tool in the player’s arsenal is their ability to shape the worlds they visit; altering the terrain and extracting the valuable resources from planets, asteroids, and moons. These resources can be traded on the open market or can be crafted into new tools, vehicles, and modules to create everything from an enormous industrial base to small tents made for overnight expeditions. Environments that players will explore are procedurally generated and feature a textureless aesthetic, which will allow the player to shape the terrain much like a child can mold Play-Doh.
Astroneer is currently in development but is slated for a 2016 release on Steam for Windows PC, Linux, and Mac. No pricing details have been released yet.
