Amsterdam-based publisher Daum Games announced that it has begun cooperation with Korean studio Pearl Games to bring Black Desert Online to Western audiences. Daum Games has already started translating the game and launched a teaser website.
Black Desert Online is an MMORPG set in a medieval fantasy world. The game boasts impressive visuals coupled with combat that emphasizes action. It also offers a rich character customization system with detailed editing. Rather than following a strictly-established plot, Black Desert Online plays more like an open-world action RPG.
The MMORPG has been active in Russia and Korea. Along with translating the game, Daum Games plans a different business model and some balance changes for the upcoming Western release.
“We are localizing approximate 2.5 million words into English, German and French,” Daniel Loehr, project manager at Daum Games, said. “Black Desert Online‘s content and gameplay systems will be adjusted to accommodate Western players and our differentiating business model.”
Instead of following a free-to-play or a subscription model, Black Desert Online will be a one-time purchase. Players will have the option of purchasing cosmetic variations and “convenience items” from the game’s store.
