There’s a new festival in Poland, Katowice, celebrating indie games and other indie productions later this Fall. Ars Independent Festival 2015 offers a space to curate creations and a monetary prize to winners, determined by a jury.
It’s not too late to enter the “Black Horse of Video Games” competition, the game segment of the festival. The festival accepts entries till June 30th. There are a couple of rules to keep in mind in order to be eligible. Only games produced after January 1st, 2014 can enter, and only if they’re in a finished state – so no Alpha, Beta, or Early Access titles. There’s no entry fee, but entrants must make sure they provide the game and necessary copies, physical or digital, to the festival before the deadline. This document details the specifications to be eligible. The prize for the game portion is 500 euros.
So far, only two entrants are confirmed, an RPG LISA and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number. LISA (trailer above) tells about a man’s journey through a post-apocalyptic world devoid of women, except for the protagonist’s daughter. Brad Armstrong faces utterly surreal, hyper-masculine foes. It also features RPG combat inspired by Earthbound.
The jury set to judge video games features Jakub Dvorský, Czech game designer and founder of Amanita Design, a studio famous for adventure titles. Magdalena Cielecka, Games Research Association of Poland member, is another confirmed judge.
Other than games, there are also many feature and documentary films competing in the festival.
Tough the game submission deadline is June 30th, the actual festival takes place in Katowice from September 22-27 later this year. Check out the Ars Independent Festival website for more information on the upcoming event.
