1987 Comedy The Princess Bride Gets a Game

Princess Bride 2Though it was slightly before my time, I have good news for anyone that loved the outlandish, cheesy 80s comedy, The Princess Bride. Believe it or not, there’s an iOS game, and it’s out right now. Developed by Gameblend Studios, The Princess Bride – The Official Game, finally allows gamers to step right into Rob Reiner’s 1987 film, based on William Goldman’s romantic, fantasy-comedy novel.

In the Official Game, there are four different modes available to gamers, each based on an important and hilarious moment from within the film itself. Escape the wrath of the shrieking eels, climb the Cliffs of Insanity, take part in a duel against the infamous Inigo, and even wrestle against a giant, too.

In addition, each mode also features its own leaderboard, challenges, and rewards, including images and audio clips from the 1987 film – so you’ll have reason to relive each of your favorite moments. There’s even a plan for free future updates, giving players a chance to run through the dreaded Fire Swamp.

The Princess Bride – The Official Game may not be for everyone, but if you’re a big fan of Rob Reiner’s 1987 film, then it’s most likely for you. This absurd, cult-favorite is now available for $3.99 on the App Store, and will play on iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch. (According to the App Store user reviews, the game also includes additional in-app purchases as well.)

Wow, that was out of left field. The film is a classic for sure…there hasn’t been anything like it since. Kinda weird that suddenly there’s a game based on it after all this time and that it’s for mobile. The film lends itself more to a classic King’s Quest-style adventure I would think.
